In the great narrative of the Self that is yoga, the stories of the heroines provide remarkable, empowering, and visionary allegories of our own journey. In this CD series, we look at some of their stories in great detail, and draw out the incredible lessons that reveal the role of the heroine in every yogic life. While these stories focus on women, they raise significant issues for all regardless of gender, for the heroine, like the hero, is an expression of Consciousness achieving embodiment in every seeker. We study tales from the Mahabharata and other sources; we recognize ourselves in the heroine stories of Shakuntala, Damayanti, and Draupadi, drawing them into our contemporary lives as trenchant, powerful, and revelatory examples of the yogic life. With a particular Tantric focus, we read and interpret these stories in light of the teachings of Rajanaka Yoga, a school of the Auspicious Wisdom of the Goddess or Shakta Tantra.
