Sianna Sherman is an internationally recognized Anusara Yoga teacher who first discovered yoga in 1989 when coming across a book that described the powers of the subconscious mind. With a completely ignited heart, she radically changed her life and began to seek teachers of meditation, asana and empowered awakening. Her journey turned in myriad directions, each a salutation to the immense gift of consciousness. She studied with many great beings who helped her along the way. Some of her studies included: herbalism, naturopathic medicine, shamanism, swedish and thai massage therapies, ayurveda, ritualistic priestess medicine, yoga, Tantric philosophy and meditation. In 1995 she had the great blessing of meeting her primary mentor John Friend and has studied with him extensively ever since their first auspicious meeting. She also studies closely with 2 renowned Tantric scholars, Dr. Douglas Brooks and Dr. Paul Muller-Ortega. In 2008, Yoga Journal named Sianna as one of 21 talented young teachers shaping the future of yoga. Sianna playfully weaves alignment, therapeutics, and creative sequencing with stories, poetry and living wisdom insight that embrace the fullness of life. She delights in spontaneous dance and long walks in nature.
Kenny Graham’s love of yoga began at age 19 when he discovered an unused yoga book of his father’s and he took this book to college with him where he began to practice on his own. Several years later, he had his first taste of Anusara Yoga© through his sister Christina Graham. Anusara’s heartfelt approach and depth inspired Kenny to dive deep into the potentials of his practice. Kenny has completed three Anusara teacher trainings, the first under the direction of Noah maze, Sue Elkind and Naime Jezzeny at City Yoga of Los Angeles and the last two under the guidance of Anusara’s founder John Friend. Kenny teaches public classes, workshops and retreats in the Bay area and beyond. His passion is to help students discover their own potential and to find the treasures within the ocean of their own consciousness.
Noah Maze is recognized in the yoga community as one of the most advanced and proficient practitioners and teachers of Anusara Yoga®, and is widely sought out as a teachers teacher. Noah was born into a household of yogis, was raised with the practices and traditions of yoga, and his teaching style is expressive of the depth of his knowledge and lifelong experience in the principles and practices. In addition to studying closely with Anusara Founder John Friend for many years, Noah studies with Professor Douglas Brooks, one of the world’s foremost scholars of the Srividya traditions of the Hindu Tantra. Noah has also studied extensively with Richard Freeman in the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga tradition. Noah also serves on the Anusara Yoga® curriculum committee and is a Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher.
Dr. Douglas Brooks is among the world’s leading scholars of Hindu Tantrism and the esoteric traditions of the Goddess. After receiving a Masters degree from Harvard Divinity School, he continued his studies in the history of religions, Sanskrit, and Indian studies going on to receive a Masters and Doctorate from Harvard University’s Center for the Study of World Religions. Douglas has held academic positions both in India and the United States and has lectured around the world. Currently, he is Professor of Religion at the University of Rochester in New York. In addition to his formal Western education, Douglas lived for many years in India in the house of his Teacher according to the traditions of Guru Kulam in which the student is initiated into all facets of the Indian classical Sanskrit education, including philosophy, yoga, ritual, and worship. Douglas’ Teacher, Gopala Iyer Sundarmoorthy was not only an eminent scholar of Hinduism, but a Master of the Tantric Goddess tradition known as Auspicious Wisdom, or Shri Vidya. Douglas is the author of a number of books and scholarly articles on Hinduism and the Comparative Study of Religion. His most recent work includes a new commentary on the Bhagavad Gita from a Tantric point of view. This work is a direct collaboration with John Friend, world-renown yoga teacher and the founder of Anusara Yoga.
Carlos Pomeda, M.A. (Sanskrit and Asian Studies) UC Berkeley. Carlos will be teaching the yoga philosophy component of the Teacher Training Program. Carlos received formal traditional training in yoga during almost 18 years as a monk of the Sarasvati order, 9 of which he spent in the studying at Siddha Yoga Ashram in India. During this time he learnt the various systems of Indian Philosophy and immersed himself in the practice of yoga. He combines this traditional training with an academic background as well, having earned two Masters’ degrees: one in Sanskrit from UC Berkeley and another one, in Religious Studies, from UC Santa Barbara. Studying with Carlos is a truly delightful and enlightening experience. His intention is to support the participants to get a deep understanding of the yoga tradition and be able to easily integrate this knowledge into yoga classes.
