The Immersion program covers every aspect of yoga, asana (postures), pranayama (breath work), meditation, therapeutics, and philosophy. The Teacher Training program covers the art and technique of teaching Anusara Yoga.
Yoga Alliance Certification

Completing both the Immersion and the Teacher Training Program will fulfill requirements for 200-hour Certification with Yoga Alliance. The hours you accrue can also be credited toward Anusara Teachers Certification.

Anusara Teacher Training with Abby Tucker and Guest Teacher Sianna Sherman for Therapeutics
Begins January 20

Teaching yoga is both an art and a science. In order to teach with confidence and skill, it is important to understand the poses, their benefits and applications. The emphasis of this program is learning to teach the poses in the Anusara method, which includes heart-oriented languaging and Universal Principles of Alignment. It is a comprehensive training for Anusara teachers to fine-tune their teaching skills and understanding, and for experienced students who want to pursue teaching.

The program includes monthly written homework assignments, quizzes and readings from assigned texts, and practice teaching skills. Students come away with a strong foundation in the philosophy of yoga, skill in seeing and adjusting poses, an ability to articulate pose instructions clearly and succinctly, and language skills to inspire students to express their poses from the inside out.

Sianna Sherman is an internationally recognized Anusara Yoga teacher who first discovered yoga in 1989 when coming across a book that described the powers of the subconscious mind. With a completely ignited heart, she radically changed her life and began to seek teachers of meditation, asana and empowered awakening. Her journey turned in myriad directions, each a salutation to the immense gift of consciousness. She studied with many great beings who helped her along the way. Some of her studies included: herbalism, naturopathic medicine, shamanism, swedish and thai massage therapies, ayurveda, ritualistic priestess medicine, yoga, Tantric philosophy and meditation. In 1995 she had the great blessing of meeting her primary mentor John Friend and has studied with him extensively ever since their first auspicious meeting. She also studies closely with 2 renowned Tantric scholars, Dr. Douglas Brooks and Dr. Paul Muller-Ortega. In 2008, Yoga Journal named Sianna as one of 21 talented young teachers shaping the future of yoga. Sianna playfully weaves alignment, therapeutics, and creative sequencing with stories, poetry and living wisdom insight that embrace the fullness of life. She delights in spontaneous dance and long walks in nature.

Abby Tucker is a Certified Anusara Yoga© instructor, first began studying Anusara in 1998, auspiciously, on Anusara’s first birthday. From the first class, Abby’s spirit was ignited in a new way, leading her to leave behind the world of Washington, DC public relations for a wild journey into the wilds of her heart and of Berkeley, California. In 2005, Abby was introduced to Dr. Douglas Brooks and passionately studies the teachings of Rajanaka Tantra, which have illuminated an infinite wellspring of places to explore.

Since 1998, Abby has completed nearly 2,000 hours of classroom and Anusara training hours under the tutelage of her teacher and Anusara founder John Friend, as well as with senior teachers Sianna Sherman, Jim Bernaert and Noah Maze. It has been Abby’s great blessing and privilege to serve as apprentice to Sianna, assisting her at public classes in Berkeley, as well as at national workshops and events. In addition to her more recent philosophy studies, Abby credits much of her solid foundation in yoga history—from the Vedas to the Tantras–to yoga scholar Carlos Pomeda.

Known by her students as an engaging storyteller, Abby intricately weaves the details of everyday life with Anusara’s broad-based, life-affirming tantric philosophy throughout the practice. Abby encourages her students to have fun in their practice and to expand their edge by using their bodies as a playground–an experimental and experiential laboratory of postures, breath, spirit, and magical places. Her bohemian spirit radiates throughout her life on and off the mat. Abby seeks to make her practice and life a joyful reflection of the beauty and fun to be had in life. Wildly passionate about her asana practice and philosophy studies, she also nourishes her soul through skiing, hiking, travel, and all types of food, music and art.

Abby wishes to thank all of her teachers for their dedication, and to extend her deep gratitude to John Friend, Dr. Douglas Brooks, and her friend and mentor Sianna Sherman.
