About the island

kea island

Kea, known to locals as Tzia, is a secret well kept by Athenians who come to unwind on weekends. Unlike its more touristy neighbors, Kea remains authentic and tranquil, offering a rich tapestry of landscapes and traditions.

  • Beaches: Kea’s beaches are perfect for swimming, relaxing under the tent shade, and or basking in the sun.

  • Villages: The island’s capital, Ioulida, is a picturesque town of stone alleys, red-tiled roofs, and artisan shops nestled in the hills. Other villages like Vourkari and Korissia offer harbor views, quaint cafés, and glimpses into local life.

  • Hiking: Kea is a hiker’s paradise, laced with ancient stone-paved trails that wind through olive groves, oak forests, and hillside chapels. One of the most iconic routes leads to the Lion of Kea, a mysterious archaic sculpture carved directly into rock over 2,500 years ago.

  • Natural Beauty: Beyond the beaches and ruins, Kea offers a rare ecosystem of forests, aromatic herbs, and migrating birds. As you walk the trails or gaze out to sea, it’s easy to feel the quiet magic of a place that invites reverence and stillness.
