These courses offer an in-depth discussion of the deeper dimensions of yoga. Drawing insight directly from the ancient texts, they bring alive the authentic teachings that underlie the practice of yoga and show how they are relevant to the lives of modern people. These courses, individually or as a series, are appropriate for yoga teachers and trainees from any tradition as well as for yoga practitioners who simply want to deepen their understanding.

Course Descriptions:

History & Overview of Yoga: Sun May 17 11am-1:30pm

This discussion outlines the big picture of yoga history and provides a framework to understand where any particular system of yoga, from ancient to modern, fits in.

The Secret Teachings of the Upanishads: Sun June 14 11am-1.30pm

In this session, Carlos provides a method to systematize and understand these sprawling and difficult texts, thus laying the groundwork to understand Vedanta, meditation and the experience of the Self. (Discontinued) Download the free Study Guide here

Bhagavad Gita: The Yogas of Action, Knowledge and Devotion – Sun July 12 11am-1.30pm

This talk explores the three types of yoga described in the India’s most beloved sacred text, the Bhagavad Gita. Carlos shows how revolutionary this text was because it demystified yoga and brought its formerly secret teachings -- that had been reserved for male, renunciates of the highest caste -- to the masses.

Patanjali's Classical Yoga: Sun August 9 11am-1.30pm

Blueprint for Transformation. By looking directly at Patanjali’s words, Carlos shows how the author’s intent has often been misunderstood. While the text outlines the eight-limbed path of ashtanga yoga, to Patanjali, the most important limb was the final one, Samadhi, timeless absorption in the Absolute.

Tantra: The Wheel of Divine Energy & Kashmir Shavism Tantra: Sun September 26 11am-1.30pm

The Wheel of Divine Energy. One of Carlos’s primary goals in this talk is to recover the word Tantra, so often misappropriated. He shows how Tantra is, in reality, a sublime life-affirming philosophy, entirely relevant to the modern world. He discusses such topics as the rise of the feminine and how emotions can be a tool to promote understanding and spiritual growth. Kashmir Shavism: Carlos explores this approach, which is arguably the most elegant representation of Tantra ever developed. Its methods for finding the divine in everyday life are both uplifting and inspiring. Developed by a lineage of householders, that is, people living in the world with jobs and families, Kashmir Shavism is particularly relevant to people today.

Hatha Yoga + Its Souces - Sun October 18 11am-1:30pm

Today, Hatha yoga is very popular all over the world, but where does it come from? In this workshop we will understand the basis of Hatha yoga to align ourselves with the original intention of this method. In addition, we will talk about the chronological background, its development, the three phases of development, and Kuṇḍalinī.
